The importance of battery cells in our daily lives is on the rise. Whether it's riding an e-bike to work, using a smartphone, or purchasing an electric car, batteries are a crucial component. Charged batteries are necessary for effortless mountain biking or emission-free travel from point A to point B. However, gaining a better understanding of battery manufacturing can be a challenge, as finding straightforward answers to basic questions can be difficult. For instance, how are batteries made? Are there any notable battery manufacturing hotspots in Europe, and where are they located? Lastly, who at Fraunhofer is responsible for battery-related topics?

We have created an interactive 3D world called "Battery Campus" to help introduce the topic of batteries. Visitors can explore the world and learn about various aspects of batteries through engaging content such as podcasts, videos, articles, and quizzes. The content was developed in collaboration with leading Fraunhofer battery experts to provide a comprehensive understanding of the battery industry. Users can navigate through the virtual learning world at their own pace and gain a better understanding of complex topics through first-person presentations. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, there's something for everyone in Battery Campus.

The Battery campus includes seven different spaces:

Upon arrival at the building, we are greeted by the "Battery Lobby". This interactive exhibit offers a fun and informative way to learn about the fundamentals of batteries. It's like roaming through a battery basics museum.

Would you like to catch a movie? Take a left turn, please! We have a four-part webinar series that covers the "European battery ecosystem" and its value chain, the "lithium-ion battery material cycle", "sustainable battery cell manufacturing", and "digital twins". For those who wish to expand their knowledge after the movie, our media library offers a range of informative articles and entertaining podcasts to peruse. Let's explore and discover what awaits us!

After so much new input, we need a break: Time to exchange ideas with our colleagues from the European Battery Cell Learning Laboratory (ELLB) at the Community Café. Here we learn more about the topic of further education in the field of batteries.

At the end of the tour of the campus, you can get to know the Fraunhofer Research Fabrication Battery Cell FFB facility in more detail in the Fraunhofer FFB Space: the construction site diary, current publications, the presentation of the project and much more can be discovered there.
